July 2023 – comics update
The truth is that my comics work is foundering and has been for the past few years. I just don’t like anything that I draw anymore. I have lost faith in myself and the purpose of creating comics. Quite bluntly: I feel like a failure.
So, yes, I am abandoning Callisto 7 yet again. I am also giving up on another short that I was working on, “The Mermaid and the Alligator Man.”
For now, I’m just going to stick to my notebook and try to believe in my art again. I still feel calm and satisfied when I draw. The act of laying down ink is meditative and healing. I just don’t like the end result. Maybe that means that art for me is not about communication. I don’t know. I’m in the middle of many emotions right now.
That said, my short story “Hands” is set to be published in a literary anthology in Spring of 2024. I’ll let you know when that happens.
For now, here are the pages that I have most recently completed.
This is the first page of “The Mermaid and the Alligator Man:”
And here are the pages from the second draft of Callisto 7:
Sad to hear it, as I’m a fan of your work. Hope you regain faith and get back on the creative tide soon.
Thank you.
